Dr. Martin Sloan

Dr. Martin V. Sloan was born in Long Beach, California. At the age of three, he followed his parents to northern California. He grew up in Sacramento, California and attended the University of California at Davis, where he earned his Bachelor's and Master's degree in Nutritional Science. He received his Podiatric Medical degree from the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco. He completed his residency at Bellwood General Hospital in Long Beach and Baja Crippled Children's Project in Baja, California (staffed by faculty from Los Angeles County - USC Medical Center).

Upon completion of his training in 1984, Dr. Sloan relocated to Abilene, Texas and opened his private practice. His goal was and always has been to provide the highest quality foot care to his patients and to help them return to a normal, active lifestyle in a safe and efficient manner.

Dr. Sloan has been on active staff since the early years at both Abilene hospitals. As his practice grew, he was invited to provide services in surrounding community hospitals. He now serves on the staff of five hospitals covering a radius of 100 miles, as well as local surgery centers.

Practice Philosophy

Dr. Martin Sloan and his staff strive on a daily basis to provide the best and most comprehensive podiatric care to their patients. This is accomplished by the following measures:

  • Dr. Sloan is thoroughly trained in all aspects of podiatric care (pediatrics, biomechanics, sports medicine, preventive care, surgery, diabetic foot care, wound care, geriatric, and hospital podiatry.
  • Dr. Sloan and his staff keep abreast of the most recent medical advances by regularly attending continuing medical education seminars around the country.
  • Dr. Sloan approaches each patient with a focused empathy in part because he has personally experienced many podiatric problems. He treats each patient as he would a member of his own family.
  • The office provides patients easy access to the doctor and to the adjacent hospital and medical testing facilities. Updated modern equipment is utilized to enhance patient care.
  • While the Abilene office serves as the core of Dr. Sloan's practice, multiple satellite offices are provided for the ease of patient access. Recognizing the unique geography of West Texas, Dr. Sloan rotates through three offices in the surrounding rural communities. This provides quality medical care in a safe and efficient manner to citizens of West Texas within a 100 mile radius of Abilene.
  • Medical and surgical care is most likely available "close to your home" as a result of the multiple office concept.
  • Dr. Sloan has spent considerable time volunteering to the profession and the community to ensure the profession moves forward in such a way as to benefit the members of the community. For example, he is active on the Board of Directors of the Texas Podiatric Medical Association, as well as the committee that oversees and ensures optimal quality of care to the patients.

Clearly, Dr. Sloan and his staff as well as the staff team at each of the three surrounding communities are dedicated to the citizens or West Texas. Our goal is to provide consistent, state of the art, quality care. We leave no toe unturned.

Our staff works as a team in providing comprehensive foot health care. The return to comfort and normal activity is our primary goal. To this end, we are interested in both the prevention and correction of lower extremity disorders. Many conditions can be successfully treated in a conservative manner.

Occasionally, surgical correction is necessary. These procedures, when indicated, may be performed either in the surgical center or in the hospital on an outpatient basis. There is rarely the need for an overnight hospital stay.

Each individual has a therapeutic approach that is best suited for him or her. Whatever the approach, patients generally find that comfort and return to normal activity is attainable in a short amount of time.
